This interesting Pousada is built within the walls of a sixteenth century fort, once attacked by Sir Walter Raleigh, and it’s courtyard is complete with old cannon pointing out over the harbour through narrow embrasures in the thick stone walls.
All 25 rooms have private facilities with bath or shower, TV, heating and some double beds. The rooms facing over the grassy courtyard have balconies, those facing inland are without.
A characterful restaurant is complemented by a bar which also gives access to the grassy courtyard. The Estalagem is right in the centre of the sea frontage of the town.
Our Opinion
A welcome addition to the accommodation available in Faial, this modern
4 star highly efficient hotel has good rooms each with balcony and all
facing the sea and Pico in the distance.
