Set in an elevated position in the foothills of São Gonçalo, high above the Bay of Funchal, this excellent Country House Hotel was originally built in 1804 as a hunting lodge for the first Count of Carvalhal and is just 15 minutes away from the centre of Funchal. Guests have the advantage of direct access to the Palheiro Gardens and the PGA Palheiro Golf Course from the Hotel garden.

Our opinion
This 5 star Country House Hotel offers style and elegance and is highly recommended. Although the centre of town is only some 15 minutes drive away, we do suggest that guests hire a car.
