N68 Casa da Tábua    Near Praia da Âncora

Situated on the bank of the river Âncora, this most tastefully modernised traditional house is totally quiet; the only sounds being the water running over the weir a short distance away. The floors of all three bedrooms in the main house are in polished wood and that of the living room in ceramic tiles. Central heating is provided for winter time. Outside the living room is a terrace which leads up to the tennis court. Two bicycles and a canoe are provided for use of guests, together with life jackets for the latter. An additional shower room is provided at ground floor level for guests entering from the swimming pool or river. There is a fine covered terrace with stone tables and benches right on the edge of the river for alfresco eating. In the flour milling room,(where the water turned mill wheel is still working)there is a football machine for the amusement of guests. All windows have built-in mosquito nets.

Our Opinion
This house was the highlight of our research trip and is one of our favourite houses of all those in the North of Portugal. Its position being just five to ten minutes drive to Praia da Âncora beach is perfect and the mixture of modern and traditional materials used in the conversion together with the quality of the furnishings throughout produce the most delightful holiday venue.
